HOUSTON -- Robinson Cano had a three-run shot in the seventh inning, one of the Seattle Mariners season-high four homers in a 10-4 win over the Houston Astros on Monday night. Mike Zunino had a two-run drive in the second, Michael Saunders added a pair on his long ball in the fourth and Brad Miller homered two batters later to help the Mariners to their eighth win in 10 games. Heralded prospect Taijuan Walker (1-0) allowed homer runs to George Springer and Marwin Gonzalez early before settling down to strike out six in six innings in his season debut after dealing with a shoulder problem. Rookie James Jones had a career-high four hits and his second three-steal game. Hes the second player in franchise history and first since Ichiro Suzuki in 2004 to have at least four hits and three steals in a game. Houston starter Collin McHugh (4-7) allowed five hits, five runs and tied a career high with three home runs in six innings. Walker has started four major league games and three have come against the Astros. He picked up his second win on Monday night and the first since he also beat the Astros in his major league debut on Aug. 30. The 21-year-old made six starts at Triple-A Tacoma before he was recalled on Monday. Houstons Jose Altuve went 0 for 3, but extended his franchise record by stealing a base in his seventh straight game. He leads the American League with 37 this season and his seven-game steal streak is the most in the majors since Chone Figgins did it in 2010. He was plunked on the left elbow in the fifth inning, but appeared to be OK. Alex Presley singled with one out in the first before Springers towering shot, which bounced off the glass above the left field wall, gave Houston a 2-0 lead. It was the first career homer allowed by Walker and travelled an estimated at 445 feet, which is the longest ever hit to left field by an Astro. Springer leads the Astros with 16 homers this season, which is a franchise record for a rookie before the All-Star break. Logan Morrison drew a walk to start the second before Zuninos homer to the Crawford Boxes in left field tied it at 2-all. Gonzalez put Houston back on top in the bottom of the inning with his two-out homer, which crashed off the foul pole in right field. Walker walked Jon Singleton after that, but he limited the damage when Matt Dominguez hit into an inning-ending double play. Zunino struck out with one out in the fourth inning, but reached first on a wild pitch. Saunders gave Seattle a 4-3 lead with his homer to the second deck in right field. McHugh struck out Dustin Ackley before Millers fifth home run this month pushed the lead to 5-3. The Mariners got consecutive singles by Endy Chavez and Jones in the seventh before Canos home run off Josh Zeid sailed into the Crawford Boxes to make it 8-3. NOTES: Walker is the third pitcher since 2004 to face the same team three times within four starts, joining Wade LaBlanc and Justin Germano. ... The series continues on Tuesday when Houstons Jarred Cosart opposes Hisashi Iwakuma. ... Houston CF Dexter Fowler missed his fourth straight game with tightness in his back. ... Houston manager Bo Porter said that Astros LHP Dallas Keuchel, who was scratched from his last start because of inflammation in his left wrist, is doing better and should be ready to start on Thursday or Friday.
. New York (16-9-Cool took over first place in the Eastern Conference and has the best record in the league with one game remaining. Houstons five-game unbeaten streak was snapped, and the Dynamo (13-11-9) are sixth in the East with one game remaining.
. -- Matt Rupert scored once in regulation and again in the shootout as the London Knights extended their win streak to nine games by defeating the Owen Sound Attack 4-3 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League action.
.L. - Defending womens champion Alberta improved to 3-0 at the Canadian junior curling championships with a 10-3 win over Ontario in Sundays afternoon draw.
. 1. AMIR JOHNSON: Nice to see him back in the lineup Tuesday night in Washington DC. Played with great energy and purpose. Its amazing when a guy gets those few precious days to recover what it does to the bounce in their step and overall game/confidence.
. Masahiro Tanaka has touched down in the United States and the courting of the Rakuten Golden Eagles stud pitcher has begun in earnest by a bevy of MLB teams interested in the Japanese ace. Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the signing of veteran outfielder Reggie Abercrombie to a contract for the 2014 season. Abercrombie, 33, has played parts of the last four seasons in the American Association with the Sioux Falls Canaries, hitting .316 with 54 home runs and 213 RBI in 242 games with Sioux Falls. He also played parts of three seasons in the Major Leagues with the Florida Marlins and Houston Astros from 2006-2008. “We are super thrilled to have Reggie join the Goldeyes organization. With Rhyne Hughes not being able to come up and join our team, we needed to find someone that could replace Rhyne in the middle of the lineup and be an impact guy. Hes the best guy out there for that role,” Forney said of Abercrombie, who started the season in the Mexican League with Monclova, where he hit .314 with four home runs and 16 RBI in 16 games. The only player to have a 20/20 season in the American Association when he hit 22 home runs and stole 34 bases in 2010, Abbercrombie has played 14 professional seasons.dddddddddddd He reached the pinnacle on April 4, 2006 when he suited up for the National Leagues Florida Marlins. He went on to play 111 games with the Marlins in 2006, batting .212 with five home runs and 24 RBI in 255 at-bats. The following season he appeared in 35 games with Florida and another 34 games with the Astros in 2007. In 180 Major League games, he batted .223 with 9 home runs and 34 RBI. A career .280 hitter in the minor leagues, Abercrombie is a true power threat. Hes averaged 22 home runs and 82 RBI during the last four seasons in the American Association and Mexican League. After being drafted by Los Angeles Dodgers in the 23rd round of the 1999 MLB amateur draft, Abercrombie played the next 10 seasons in the affiliated ranks with the Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Marlins and Astros. During that time, he spent parts of four seasons at Class AA and seven seasons at Class AAA. Hes a career .290 hitter at the Class AAA level. ' ' '
